A Made in Italy project for the energy transition in Europe

During 2019, the subsidiary FIB Srl, on the market under the brand FAAM, continued the activities of completion of the plant in Teverola (CE), as part of the redevelopment project of the former complex Indesit (Whirlpool).

The new plant has an initial installed capacity of about 300 Mwh/year of lithium accumulators for Motive Power, Storage and Defense applications ("Lithium Project") and is designed to be expanded over time according to market demand.

With the Project Lithium, realized on the basis of the skills of high technological value gained by the staff in the last 10 years, FIB intends to continue in order to oversee the entire supply chain of the production of accumulators, becoming independent from Asian suppliers of lithium cells, which currently control the market completely.

The European Commission, within the program called IPCEI (Important Projects of Common European Interest) has approved a facility for a total amount of Euro 3.2 billion in favor of 17 companies operating in the following European countries: Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Sweden.

The project of the subsidiary FIB, presented in February 2019, was examined by the Ministry of Economic Development and the EC and was considered innovative and consistent with the objectives of the project.

The energy transition to electric mobility

The project is part of the energy transition to electric mobility and emission reduction, which is a highly strategic objective for Europe and requires an extraordinary effort to develop advanced technologies and autonomous European production chains. The project also provides for the development of technologies and treatment capacities for the recycling of batteries at the end of life, in compliance with the principles of the Green Economy and Circular Economy.

Repeating what has been achieved for lead batteries, realizing autonomously, without resorting to Asian suppliers, the cells for the production of lithium batteries starting from lithium carbonate, with which the active material lithium-iron-phosphate is realized. Through this project a highly customized and innovative product will be proposed to the market, being able to control the entire production process and adapting, starting from the raw material, the product to the needs of customers.
